THEIR PIZZA ARRIVED, and Ally dug in. After her long day, she felt like she was starving to death. She was halfway through her second piece before she realized Eddie was skimming the notes in her file and smiling.

“You’ve made a list of all the fire stations,” he said. “Are we all under suspicion?”When she didn’t answer, he raised a brow, then kept reading. When he came to her list of suspects, he tossed back his head and laughed out loud. “Me? I’m your sole suspect?”

She lifted a shoulder.

Still smiling, his gaze ran slowly over her features. “Any time you want to search my person, you let me know.” He turned a few pages. “A list of places that sell dirty wrapping paper. And a list of the adult novelty shops in the area. So what’s the plan? You going to go storm them, gun blazing?”

“Give me my file.”

“You are,” he murmured, still grinning. “God, please let me watch.”

She reached for the file but he slid it to his far side, making it so that she had to reach across him to get it. She was practically lying on his broad chest trying to grasp the papers when he let go of them and slid his hands up her arms.

Pleasure slammed into her and she went still. She was doing a pretty crappy job at that distance thing.

Eddie had gone still too, his long, leanly muscled body hard beneath hers. Slowly his gaze dropped to her mouth.

When she shivered, he leaned in to kiss her. And since she already knew he kissed like heaven on earth, her entire body shivered again in anticipation.

But instead of planting one on her, he reached past her for the sex manual, which fell open to a chapter entitled Sexual Fantasies.

“I probably could have written this chapter,” he said.

Unsure if she was relieved or disappointed about the lack of a kiss, she sat back and grabbed another piece of pizza. “Let me guess. Your fantasies are about two women kissing, or two women naked, or better yet, two women kissing and naked.”

His eyes dilated. “Not bad,” he said, voice husky. “But mine tend to be more specific.”

“Like?”

He arched his brow, silently asking if she really wanted to hear this, and her mouth promptly disconnected from her brain. “Tell me.”

“You,” he murmured. “My fantasy is you, in that little black dress and those do-me heels you wore at Thanksgiving.”

She arched a brow, and he nodded.

She finally found her voice. “That actually seems relatively tame, me in the dress.”

“With nothing beneath it except your gun.”

She blinked.

He let out a low laugh. “Yeah, I get a lot of mileage out of reliving that scene at the Thanksgiving fire. Except in my fantasy, you’re walking through my house instead of the warehouse. And you take me down instead of your perp, and then…”

His breathing roughened. “Sorry,” he said with a shake of his head. “This is my favorite part. You slip out of the dress.”

“Tell me I’m not really wearing just my gun beneath it.
